Travel Life Insurance Tips
There are a number of options to check out before you get travel life insurance. If you are doing an online search, you will find references to travel insurance, travel medical (or travel health) insurance as well as travel life insurance. It is wise to check all of them when you are shopping for coverage because sometimes the life insurance is combined with other insurance.
But before you start looking for a new life insurance policy, first you should check any existing life insurance policies that you may have. If you already have a life insurance policy, do you need travel insurance at all? Is the amount of coverage what you want? Does your policy cover you while you are traveling? Does it cover travel outside of your country? Could you purchase a rider for your existing policy that will cover you for travel?
When you begin your shopping specifically for travel life insurance you need to answer some questions.
Here is a checklist of things you should ask before you purchase travel life insurance: Do you want in-flight only coverage? Or do you want ground coverage as well? Are you traveling out of your home country? Is your travel domestic or international? Are you looking for travel life insurance only or do you want medical insurance as well? Is the coverage just for yourself or does it include family members? Is your travel for business or pleasure? You may have coverage through work that only provides travel life insurance for business travel. How long do you want your travel life insurance policy to cover? 24 hours? Years? Or anywhere in between. What dollar amount of insurance do you want? Do you want optional liability coverage? This might be a good idea particularly if you plan to drive in a foreign country. Do you want AD&D (accidental death and dismemberment) coverage? When do you want the insurance to start? What is the cost? What is not covered? Pay particular attention to anything that is excluded and be sure to read the fine print. What are the eligibility requirements for the policy? Does your airfare include optional life insurance? Are you traveling as part of a group that could arrange travel life insurance for the whole group? And here's a last minute option. If you have not made your arrangements for insurance before you travel, once you arrive at the airport for check in, look around for a kiosk that sells insurance! Travel insurance may or may not include travel life insurance. If you are particularly concerned to have travel life insurance you may need to arrange a term life policy that covers the period you plan to travel. Now that you have taken care of that chore, relax, pack your suitcase and enjoy the trip!
